The Networking evenings were established following feedback received at the AGSM Alumni lunchtime forums held in Melbourne in November, 2005. There was demand for free networking events that allowed alumni and guests to network without the price tag and specific topics generally associated with speaker events.
The inaugural event was held on 30th March, 2006, and attracted about 30 attendees.
The Networking evenings are now a regular event, held on the Last Thursday of the Month at our regular venue, The Mint. Our venue provides delicious complimentary finger food and a relaxed atmosphere to mix with other alumni, students and their guests.
Momentum has been building as word of mouth spreads and our mailing list improves. The final free event for 2006 included a guest speaker, and attracted approx. 70 AGSM associated guests. Dr Timothy Sharp from The Happiness Institute battled the elements of weather, a full public venue on a warm day, and the nearby Melbourne tram system, to give us helpful hints for surviving the Silly Season and life in general. The wonderful chocolate basket door prizes, kindly provided by Masterfoods, helped to further elevate the atmosphere.
Over 40 people attended the February event, many of which attended for the first time, including some alumni who were fortunate enough to finish EY in 2006 and had been looking forward to the networking opportunity.

Guest sponsors were introduced to the evenings last year, providing exciting door prizes to lucky attendees. Previous sponsors include recruitment firms, GOW Recruitment and Talent2, who each provided a dinner for two to the value of $200. Following the Melbourne Fashion Festival, it is only “fitting” that the guest sponsor at our anniversary event in March is Zentini made to measure, who will provide the major prize of a $200 Zentini gift voucher to help the lucky recipient with their winter wardrobe.
We are looking forward to a great 1st birthday event. If you know other alumni and students who have not yet heard about or experienced the evening, please pass on the message and encourage them to come along and enjoy themselves.
